October 2011 Warmer & Scent of the Month!!

Welcome to my favorite season of all - FALL!!  There is something about the electricity in the air - the changing of the leaves - new perspectives and new attitudes.  Friday was the first day of fall and this fall feels like a new beginning for me!  Moving on....

I have to talk about the new scent of the month - AUTUMN STROLL - in one word - AWESOME!  All I can say is my home smells SO NICE.  Really warm and inviting scent.  Here's how Scentsy describes it:

Amble under a bright harvest moon, leaves crunching underfoot,as peppery cinnamon mingles with dusky plum and warm incense to create a spicy and comforting fragrance.

I describe it as a perfect fall scent!!!  It's in stock right here!  As usual, email or call me if you'd like to get a sample to try before buying.  I highly recommend trying it out - won't be sorry!

The Warmer of the Month - Snapshot!!  Really cool way to change up your warmer whenever you want - with pics of those you love or great memories and photos!

I predict both the scent and the warmer to be huge hits!!

Harvest House - Back Snack Program - Get Involved!!

For those of you who read my blog - I wanted to bring a special program to your attention.  I avidly support hunger issues, both financially and with my time.  Here it is the beginning of the school year and I wanted to share some information on a vitally important part of Harvester's of KC fight against hunger for CHILDREN.  Aside from all of the other volunteer options we have available to us on the fight against hunger, the Back Snack program also utilizes volunteers - check it out!!  Get together with your friends and family - sponsor a back pack - help a child!!  I challenge you to collectively match my efforts by adding FIVE BACK SNACKS to the program for the 2011/2012 school season!!  It would only take a $10 donation from 100 people..get a group of 5 together and each of those 5 get 20...you can do it!!

BackSnack

More than 86,000 children in Harvesters' service area receive free and reduced-price school meals during the week, but are at risk of hunger on weekends.

Harvesters offers the BackSnack program, which provides backpacks of food to low-income children for the weekend, to combat weekend hunger. The program creates a partnership between Harvesters, a participating school and a local corporate, civic or religious organization.

Harvesters provides the food and the backpacks, and the partnering organization provides volunteers to pick them up, clean them out and pack them with food. Schools distribute the backpacks on Friday to students who bring them back on Monday to start the process again.

BackSnack Grows to Meet Need

BackSnack began in 2004 with a pilot project serving 30 students at one school. During the 2007-2008 school year, Harvesters served 650 students at 22 schools. With the help of the Hall Family Foundation and other committed partners, BackSnack has grown dramatically and served more than 10,000 students during the 2009-2010 school year. This year, the program will grow again to serve 13,000 students each week.

BackSnack Improves Students' Health, Grades and Attendance

Harvesters hired the Midwest Center for Nonprofit Leadership to evaluate the impact of the program. Three groups of stakeholders -- students, parents and schools -- were surveyed to determine how BackSnack impacts students in seven key areas: grades, attendance, behavior, health, self esteem, responsibility and social skills. Key findings of the evaluation are:

*Grades improved by as much as 18 percent, especially in English, social studies and science.

*BackSnack students had 14 percent fewer absences by the end of the school year.

*Participants also had 23 percent fewer tardies.

*Schools report discipline issues among BackSnack students were cut in half.

*34 percent of parents say their child's health improved after participating in BackSnack.

*40 percent of parents say their child's sense of responsibility increased.

*Teachers say students' social skills significantly improve after the BackSnack program.

How can I help?

Become a financial donor: To get a backpack in the hands of 10,000 children every week during the 2009-2010 school year, Harvesters needs the community’s help. $200 will provide a backpack to one child for an entire year. Donate to Harvesters’ Childhood Hunger Initiative online or by phone at 816.929.3010.

Become a community partner: Community partners are needed to adopt schools for which they will clean, pack and deliver backpacks every week during the school year. Contact Paula Pratt, community outreach director, at InfoRequest@harvesters.org or 816.929.3091 to explore partnership opportunities.

Find out if your school is eligible for BackSnack: If your elementary school is interested in offering the BackSnack program, please have the principal contact Contact Paula Pratt, community outreach director, at InfoRequest@harvesters.org or 816.929.3091 .

Kudos to Jill & Kevin Moxley - Kids Closet Sale - NKC

I just wanted to take a moment and applaud the efforts of Jill and Kevin Moxley, owners of the North Kansas City, Blue Springs and Lee's Summit Kids Closet sales.

What an amazing contribution to these communities these sales make.  Even more touching is that "super woman" Jill managed to arrange the donations from the NKC sale to Joplin, MO tornado victims, as well as turning the sale into a drop off location for donations.  Can you imagine what it will look like when the doors to THAT truck open.

Sadly, I was set to be a vendor at the NKC sale, and my main business prevented me from attending at the eleventh hour!  I am so very sorry.  Look for me in your goodie bags!

I just wanted to give props where props are due.  Kevin, Jill and their amazing group of volunteers and consignors really do make a difference in so many lives - especially when it comes to helping children have what they may not otherwise have.  Their tireless efforts and hard work are such an inspiration!

Congrats Jill & Kevin for a job well done!  I'm very grateful to be associated with their sales.

AID FOR JAPAN – MY SCENTSY 2011 FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN

Like many of you, I have already begun personally donating to aid the people of Japan. There are few words available that can describe how I feel when I see and read about such catastrophic events and the long lasting impact on the people who live there, who have been affected and will continue to be affected for months and years to come. Like everyone, I cannot even begin to imagine the devastation. There are over half a million people who have lost everything. When I look all around the world – I see so many people who are in desperate need of help – but nothing compares to first an earthquake, then tsunami and finally a nuclear situation/potential disaster.

These people are in desperate need of food, water, and the basic necessities we take for granted every day. Food, water, shelter, clothing, medical needs, and the list goes on and on. I worry most about the children, whose tiny lives changed in 1 hours time – forever.

I’ve spent quite a bit of time trying to decide on a worthy charity to support. After much research, I have narrowed it down to 2 charities – SAVE THE CHILDREN and SAMARITAN’S PURSE - both very reputable charities and already visible in Japan. For more information on these 2 charities – read further below – I’ve also included links to their Japan Relief pages. Both of these charities are already on the ground in Japan and in the process of providing for the most basic needs expressed above.

For the remainder of 2011 – rather than splitting proceeds from ONE fundraiser, I have decided to create TWO fundraisers via online links at www.lisalu.scentsy.us . This way you, my client can pick between which charity YOU wish to support. ALL proceeds from Scentsy orders placed through these links will be donated directly to the respective charities every 30 days. Please click on the Buy From Party Link next to each charity to benefit that charity. The donation rate will be 25% of the subtotal of your order before shipping and tax. I will regularly post to my blog a PDF document that reflects the donation amount so that you KNOW the donations are being made! I’ve kicked off the Scentsy Fundraising with a $100.00 donation to each charity. Proof PDF’s are attached below.

In advance, thanks very much for helping me to assist the people of Japan this year. If you have any questions or concerns please contact me right away at ludvicekcollc@gmail.com. God Bless.

SAVE THE CHILDREN

Save the Children has been on the frontlines helping Japanese children face extraordinary challenges to their well-being and recovery from these disasters. Save the Children estimates that at least 100,000 children have been affected by the disasters; many of whom have suffered profound losses.

Relief efforts for the Japan Earthquake and Tsunami continue to be hampered by the ongoing nuclear crisis, supply shortages and frigid temperatures. Save the Children carried out an exploratory mission north of hard-hit Sendai and found children living in desperate conditions.

Save the Children has opened the first child-friendly space in Japan, protective environments where children can gather to play and share their experiences under the supervision of trained, caring adults.

Japan Disaster Facts

• An estimated 100,000 children have been displaced from their homes

• Japan facing three disasters: earthquake, tsunami and nuclear radiation

• Japan is on high nuclear alert for two nuclear reactors in Fukushima

• Many tsunami-affected areas are still cut off from relief

• More than 465 roads, 43 bridges and seven railways washed away

• More than 380,000 people evacuated across the country

For more information on Save the Children – Japan Relief go here:   Save the Children Japan Website

SAMARITAN'S PURSE
Samaritan’s Purse is airlifting 93 tons emergency aid to Japan to be distributed by our disaster relief team working in the devastated coastal area around Sendai, the closest major city to the epicenter of the deadly earthquake and tsunami.

The 14-member team, comprised of Samaritan’s Purse staff and Japanese church partners, arrived in Sendai late Wednesday night after a long drive from Tokyo through a heavy snowstorm. The convoy of trucks carried four tons of relief supplies. Through a strategic local church partnership, we were able to secure government permission to travel on a restricted access expressway that was otherwise closed to civilian traffic.

On Thursday, (March 17, 2011), our team distributed water, blankets, hygiene items, and first aid kits at a junior high school where 700 people are living in the gym. We also unloaded supplies at a church whose members will hand out the items in their community.

The team has encountered heart-wrenching scenes in the affected area, where the tsunami did much more damage than the earthquake. Coastal towns look like war zones. Collapsed houses spill out into streets that are littered with crushed cars, overturned boats, and debris. People are lined up for hours in the bitter cold for rations of food or water.

"Every time we turn a corner, we seem to come across another line of people—sometimes hundreds, sometimes thousands—waiting for basic necessities,” said team member Ivan Giesbrecht.

Much of northern Japan is experiencing shortages of food, water, fuel, and other necessities. Samaritan's Purse has another team in Tokyo setting up a logistical hub to facilitate and expedite the purchase and transport of more relief supplies.

More help is on the way. On Friday, (March 18, 2011), a 747 jumbo jet departed the U.S. for Japan, loaded with 93 tons of emergency aid, including blankets, hygiene supplies, and heavy-duty plastic shelter materials.

like a sweetheart’s whisper in the night.

Exactly what is a basket party anyway?!

Basket Parties are a relatively hassle free way to earn free and half priced Scentsy without hosting a home party! Life keeps everyone on the go these days and even though many of us would love to have the time to invite friends and family over for a get together – sometimes you just can’t find a day where everyone is available. Basket parties solve this problem!

How many times has someone handed you an invitation and your response was – I’m not able to make it that day, but I’d love to see a catalog? Basket parties are simply book parties with more pizzazz!

What comes with a basket party? Inside each basket you will find a warmer, sample cubes for warming, enough catalogs/brochures/order forms for 15 orders and a mini sampler bag of ALL the current scents!

This way, you can demonstrate exactly how Scentsy works – because there are A LOT of people who still don’t know about Scentsy! Seeing is believing! All basket parties always have at least these items – and sometimes, depending on what I have in stock, I stick other goodies in there! Each basket also comes with an information sheet to cover any questions you might have and of course, I am always available by phone or email – or even in person! If you run out of supplies – I’m on the way with more of what you need!

What do you get? In order to qualify as a basket party, you must have a combined total of $150.00 before tax. Once you hit $150, you begin earning free and half priced items. Just for hosting a basket party, every host/hostess receives a FREE gift! BONUS – at $150, (and up of course) the order qualifies for FREE SHIPPING to one location! Host/Hostess rewards start at 10% of the party total in FREE stuff and 1 half priced item and then graduates up to 15% and 2-3-4 half priced items – depending upon where your party subtotal is at! Please note that no host/hostess is ever under any obligation to use all of their half priced items!

Even better – I am adding to the rewards pile with my own special offer for the Spring/Summer season! Give me a call or email me to find out about that!! I am “sweetening the pot” or shall we say “sweetening your warmer”!!

$150 in sales is very, very easy to obtain! Just look to page 6 of the new Spring/Summer 2011 catalogs for the combine and save value packages! Just to name a few - Full Size Systems (1 Full Size Warmer and 3 Bars of Scent - $40.00), Mid Size Systems (1 Mid Size Warmer + 3 Bars of Scent - $35.00) Scentsy Companion Systems (1 Full Size Warmer, 1 Plug-In Warmer + 3 Bars of Scent - $55.00) Scent Bars – 3 for $14 and 6 for $25 (The scent bars can be mixed!). Want to split with a friend and save even more OR get 2 warmers for yourself (or maybe perhaps a gift for someone else too)? Perfect Scentsy (2 Full Size warmers and 6 Bars of Scent - $75.00).

Basket parties work very well in your work environment! Simply take your basket to work with you – plug in the warmer and you’re off! You have everything you need to take orders right in the basket!

I normally let host/hostesses keep the basket for 10 days. This way you can get in touch with friends and family, as well as the people you work with!

You’ll have a link on my Scentsy site also! http://www.lisalu.scentsy.us/ This way if you have friends/family/work associates who do not live nearby or maybe they already know what they want – they can simply visit my site – find your open party – click on the “Buy Now” link, confirm by choosing your party, and shop away! Everything they purchase applies towards your party subtotal! The only difference is that they will pay shipping and their orders ship directly to them! No worries! Scentsy shipping costs are really affordable - $5 for everything $50 and under and 10% of the subtotal at $51.00+.

When your party is complete – I get together with you to close out the orders and you choose all the goodies you want! It’s really that simple and hassle free!

All of the new products for Spring/Summer 2011 are here! We have 25 new scents to choose from – new warmers – and Scent Paks now come in over 30 scents! Our newest most exciting item? GRAB TABS! Now you can easily change the scent in your plug-in warmers! Check out my Spring Summer blog posts to see exactly what a grab tab is!!

Scentsy = A Scentsible Alternative for Fire Safety!

Let me begin by saying that in no way is should this blog entry be construed as being insensitive to the horrible tragedies suffered by families who have lost their homes due to fire. As always, my thoughts and prayers are with them.

It’s a 2-way tie when it comes to the main reasons on why I decided to become an Independent Scentsy Consultant. One of the largest benefits is the fact that I no longer have to worry about forgetting to blow out a candle. Sadly, unattended candles are one of the leading causes of fires in the home or office. With Scentsy, it’s no different than leaving a lamp on! All warmers use low watt bulbs (25W-20W-15W) and the low-residue wax slowly warms to release a giant amount of scent! I don’t have to worry about my dog’s tail swiping a flame on the table, as I did with candles – and while I do not encourage children to touch warmers, a warmer is much, much safer than a flame where children are concerned also. The unique lighting that Scentsy warmers project still give me the low light ambiance that I enjoyed with candles! I personally never turn my warmers off and they have now been running since June 2010 – (with 1 bulb replacement)! DO NOT EVER place a bulb outside of the watt requirements in your warmers. Not only will it warm the wax faster, the warmer itself could be as hot as any stove – and will BURN you! I ALWAYS have light bulbs in stock – just call or email me! They are only $1 each!

I was ALWAYS burning a candle – had reed diffusers and most expensive of all – effusion lamps – which now looking back were even more dangerous than candles – due to the alcohol based scent AND the large flame that had to burn for 3 or more minutes to get the stone warmed to a temp to emit the scent! With Scentsy there is NO wax residue on my walls and I no longer have to deal with any soot either on the glass candle holder OR my walls!

The other major reason – was the cost effectiveness of Scentsy itself. I love that for $25 I have 3-6 months worth of scent by purchasing a 6 Pack of Scentsy bars. I can purchase 6 different scents and I can switch the scent out any time I like and BONUS – if the scent is not depleted, I just pour the warmed wax back into the bar mold and I can warm it again later! There is no candle on market that you can use around the clock that will last this long. Now my home smells great all the time – not just for when I’m expecting company!

With the links below, I ask that you offer up a moment of prayer for these families. As you can see, I have tracked ONE FIRE PER MONTH for the last 90 days – LOCALLY. This is THREE FIRES TOO MANY. Thank goodness for the fire safe alternative Scentsy offers.
